Castleford Tigers Wheelchair RL team launch for 2025!

Bringing this opportunity to the community shows legacy...

Castleford Tigers through the Community Foundation are delighted to announce the launch of their Wheelchair RL Team for 2025.  The team have been busy recruiting and training hard in preparation for the season ahead.

The news came at Christmas that we’d been accepted in to the Rugby Football League and would receive fixtures.  The 9 game season give players an opportunity to pull on the Castleford Tigers colours and represent Classy Cas in the best way they can.  Bringing this opportunity to the community shows legacy to the Rugby League World Cup win in 2022 and the foresight of the club to connect to its community some key dates for the team are.

Thursday, 16th January 2025, 7:30 – 9:00 PM:  Open Training session.

Saturday, 25th January 2025: Friendly against Batley – marking our first-ever wheelchair rugby league match.

Thursday, 6th February 2025: Official start of pre-season.

Ryan Innes, our new Wheelchair Head coach said: "I'm incredibly excited to get started as the new coach of this amazing wheelchair rugby league team. This is a unique opportunity to work with a group of athletes who embody true grit and determination, and I can't wait to see what we can achieve together. My focus will be on creating an environment where everyone can grow—both as players and as people—while building a strong, united team. The challenge ahead is something I’m truly looking forward to, and I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work!".

Mat Lancaster (Education and RL Development Manager) added, “Its been fantastic to see the team at the start line for 2025, there has been a lot of hard work from the club and the foundation staff in bringing the concept to life and having that additional opportunity for people of the town to connect with us is exciting.  There’s a real clarity within the club and foundation that is setting us up to be more visible and provide better opportunities for all.  Ryan and the team have been fantastic in bringing this vision to life”

With the community foundation and club committed to provide more and better connections to the community it makes for a really exciting year.  We see this as a great opportunity to tackle inequalities in the town and raise aspiration and represent the club in the same way we do in Super League.  Full fixtures here;
