McGuire names his Captains!

As we look ahead to the 2025 season, Danny McGuire gathered his squad together to announce his choice of captain.

At the end of the review of the week meeting today, McGuire, Delaney, Murrell and Nickolay added a special section dedicated to their choice of team leaders  for the season.

A senior leaders team consisting of George Griffin, Joe Westerman and Liam Watts was announced with those boys stepping up to provide a sounding board and experience across the season.

Next up was the announcement of vice-captains and McGuire picked Alex Mellor and George Lawler calling out their qualities and leading by example as well as the way they have stepped up performances on and off the field.

And finally, McGuire announced his captain.

He said: “Being a captain, having that responsibility is a huge accolade, the history and prestige of this club and what this club means to all of us as a team, and everyone in Castleford and the wider community makes it a huge, huge honour. And my choice of captain this year is Sam Wood.”

Sam Wood said: “To be given the captaincy in the second year and to be able to lead you boys around the field and making sure I am approachable and a voice for you boys.

“I think if we put the team first and have that mentality we won’t go far wrong because we are building a good foundation this year. Everyone is working their socks off, everyone’s buying in, we are all brought in together. We’ve been working hard together and that team first mentality, will take us somewhere this year boys, I guarantee it.”
