Tigers defeated against Dragons

The Fords fell to defeat against Catalans at Wheldon Road losing 46-22.

The Tigers got up field and challenged first. A high kick from McShane saw Widdop climb highest 5 metres out, but the Fords number 6 couldn’t take it cleanly. Jacob Miller was then shown a green card after going down with an injury after being tackled late, which required the doctor on the field.

Catalans opened the scoring 8 minutes into the contest. McIlorum saw a gap and ran from dummy half and looked inside. His pass was knocked forwards by the Tigers and scooped up by Dezaria who went in to dot down.

Just 4 minutes later, the visitors were in again. A shift from left to right saw Keighran unmarked on the left side. He found a gap and reached out to ground.

It got worse for the Fords on 18 minutes. Castleford were penalised for an illegal ball steal by Widdop 20m from the Dragons’ line. This was then followed by a six-again call in favour of the visitors who got themselves within 5m. Ikuvalu picked the ball up from the play the ball and scooted low from dummy half to ground Catalans’ third of the match.

The Tigers got themselves on the board with 25 minutes played. After Bousquet knocked on for Catalans, the Tigers had head and feed on halfway. On the last tackle, McShane chipped a kick towards the in-goal area and Mellor was highest to it. He gained control and scored Cas’ opening score.

However, the Dragons scored again shortly after. Although the ball looked to have been knocked on 4th tackle, the ref said no. McIlorum received the ball from the play-the-ball and swung it left through hands before finding Johnstone who dived over to score in the corner.

On 33 minutes, Catalans found the line again. Another right to left swing and the ball through hands found Keighran. He bounced off three Tigers defenders and had a gap to go over and score and did so.

Catalans finished the half with a Try from Ben Garcia, who hit a strong line and met a pass from Pearce and he bullied his way over from short range.

This brought the scoreline to 6-34 at the break.

Catalans scored again 5 minutes into the second half. An offload from Seguier to an unmarked Whitley allowed him to go in unchallenged. With Keighran off the field, Mourgue took over kicking duties and extended the lead.

The Tigers got another score with 27 minutes to play. After back to back penalties in the Fords’ favour, followed by a six again, the Tigers found them just 5 metres out. A pass out wide found Faraimo who shoved off Johnstone to ground in the corner. Widdop was off the field, so McShane took over with the boot and slotted the ball home.

Catalans looked to counter after their kick off bounced and went dead, forcing Cas to drop out. They looked to play it wide early but the final pass to Romano who grounded, was deemed forward.

Halfway through the 2nd half, Tomkins added another. Pearce’s pass found him running in at pace and he grounded under the sticks.

Faraimo did double his tally of tries for the evening. A carbon copy of his first after the ball found him out wide after an overlap. The Fords number 5 dived in and grounded in the corner.

This was followed by another try for the Tigers. This time Alex Mellor doubling his tally. The ball came right and found Faraimo. The scramblling defence from the Dragons caught the Cas winger, but not before an offload inside to Mellor who added four more to the Tigers’ tally.

The Tigers wanted more late on. Some neat play from Westerman almost sent Mellor in for his hattrick down the left, and after a cross field kick from McShane, that found Wallis, Broadbent looked to follow up his own chip and chase but to no avail.
