Three of Castleford Tigers Women were selected for the Academy stars have been selected to take part in England Rugby League’s Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) for 2022-2024.

At the recent open trials night for the Tigresses, we caught up with them to see how they were getting on and how they were enjoying the experience. Aimee Wood is particularly enjoying the social aspect of the programme and is relishing meeting new people.

“I love it. It’s ace! I’ve made loads of friends from all around the country because everyone comes from different parts and we’ve all bonded really well. It’s a good little group.”

The programme is a fantastic opportunity for the selected girls to up their game and gain valuable experience, something that Tigresses player Madison Rainey is thriving off.

“It has improved my game immensely, and it shows you the different areas of playing Rugby and how each different coach trains you.”

For Olivia Atherton, she too has been part of the Castleford Tigers Women’s Academy set up. She believes that sticking with the Tigresses will allow her to make her Super League debut and go on to bigger and better things on the international stage.

“You can progress through the pathway. Cas have got the building. That will get you status in the Super League because you’ve been there from the start watching it progress.”

“It’s a development pathway to hopefully progress into the England Women’s teams.”
