Ahead of Castleford Tigers’ First Team match against Wigan Warriors at The Jungle, Castleford Tigers Foundation invited a number of local community clubs to participate in an under 8s tournament!

Local clubs Kippax Welfare, Cutsyke Raiders, Lock Lane and Castleford Panthers all got involved and it was amazing to see all the young stars playing the game with such enthusiasm.

Fords First Team stars Alex Sutcliffe and James Clare helped out with some coaching with the children visibly loving the opportunity to play on the hallowed field of Wheldon Road.

The festival marked a big occasion for Castleford Panthers’ under 8s who took part in their first-ever competitive rugby league match on the day and Coach George Davies outlined just how proud he was of his team.

“We have been training for a bit now and the lads have done really well because they haven’t played in a proper match before. What a venue for them to be able to play their first-ever game and I am really proud of them all.

“They have tackled hard, run hard, and played good rugby. It’s been great to be able to play on the first team pitch because they are all Cas fans!”

All of the amateur clubs in the local area play a massive part in growing the grassroots game in the and the Foundation have been showcasing the Castleford area’s young talent by having festivals at home matches recently.

Davies gave his thanks to the Foundation for inviting his club down and put forward that it shows the strong bond between the community teams and the Tigers.

“It’s really good that the Tigers Foundation have brought us down and organised it because it’s great to see all the youngsters playing together. It’s all one big Cas family!”

We are looking forward to the next Festival which will be an under 9 tournament ahead of the Catalans Dragons fixture at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle later this month!
