Radford names squad for season opener
Castleford Tigers Head Coach Lee Radford has named his first 21-man squad for the Fords’ opening clash of the Betfred Super League 2022 campaign against Salford Red Devils.

It is expected to be a crowd upwards of 9,000 at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Friday night as the excitement builds for the first match of the #NewCasEra!
The winter break has seen eight new recruits come through the door at Wheldon Road, with eye-catching signings such as Jake Mamo and Mahe Fonua really capturing the imagination of the Fords faithful.
Seven of those signings have made Radford’s maiden squad of 2022 and six could potentially be in line to make their first Tigers appearance. Fifteen years after his first hit-out in Cas colours as a teenager, Joe Westerman is set to make an emotional return to Wheldon Road after being included in Friday’s squad.
Friday could see the comeback of Jake Trueman to the Cas starting line-up for the first time in a competitive game since a back injury ruled him out for a large part of the 2021 season. Cas fans will be over the moon to see their star half-back return to action and put on a strong display at Wheldon Road once again.
The only notable absence in the Fords’ squad is #ONECLUB man Nathan Massey, who misses out due to a slight hip issue.
Like Castleford, Salford has seen an influx of new players and a new Head Coach come in with former Leigh and Toronto coach Paul Rowley at the helm. Signings such as Marc Sneyd, Brodie Croft, and Ryan Brierley will get Red Devils fans hoping for a better season than the eleventh-place finish they managed last term.
