One of Castleford Tigers’ much valued community clubs, Lock Lane ARLFC, are in action this weekend in the First Round of the Betfred Challenge Cup!
The Lane were drawn at home to Thatto Heath Crusaders, with the match scheduled for a 2pm kick-off on Saturday.
The prestigious 126-year-old competition gets underway this weekend and we urge Fords fans to get down to Lock Lane Sports Centre to support their efforts in reaching the second stage of the Cup.
Castleford Tigers’ partnership with Lock Lane stretches back for decades, with many members of the current First Team having represented them in their youth. Names such as Greg Eden, Callum McLelland, Liam Watts, Daniel Smith and Joe Westerman have all played for Lock Lane down the years.
Our community clubs in the local area are the heartbeat of the grassroot game and Fords winger Eden reaffirmed just how crucial his amateur team were in his development before wishing them well for Saturday’s Cup clash.
“I have some great memories of playing at Lock Lane and coming through with some of the lads who I play with now like Wattsy. Playing at community club level it taught me to never give up because I was a late developer in terms of making it to the first team.
“I’d like to wish Lock Lane all the best against Thatto Heath this weekend, good luck guys.”
Castleford Academy product and current First Team player Callum McLelland represented Lock Lane in his younger years and mentioned the vital lessons he learnt during his spell at the club.
“Lock Lane is one of the best run clubs I have been to, and it taught me a lot about respect. All the players that have come through community clubs have so much thanks to them because we wouldn’t be here paying professionally if it wasn’t for them.”
Everyone at Castleford Tigers wish them all the best for Saturday and don’t forget to head down to cheer them on!
