Lawler looking forward to #NewCasEra
Read George Lawler’s first official interview as a Castleford Tigers player!
During October Castleford Tigers were excited to announce the Club had captured the signature of highly-rated forward George Lawler on a two-year deal. And now in early November, he begins life at The Jungle with the Fords’ pre-season.
The 26-year-old played a crucial role in taking his boyhood side Hull KR to the play-off semi-finals last season, although Lawler reaffirmed just how excited he is to be part of the #NewCasEra.
“It is really good to be here. I’ve been here on the opposing side, and it has been pretty hostile but to walk out there with the fans behind you, it is going to be pretty special.
“The fans are really close to the pitch and it has that real feel of a family club. The supporters really get behind you so I can’t wait to get going.”
The Robins have played a big role in Lawler’s progression, from playing in their Academy to representing the club at First Team level for seven seasons. The forward was actually their longest-serving player in the 2021 season.
The England Knights international looked back on the last term fondly and will be taking the momentum from the last term into the new chapter that is ahead of him.
“It has been a fantastic year for me personally and looking back it was probably my best year since I’ve been there, but I am now ready for a new challenge here. I am really looking forward to getting going.”
A whole new period of George’s life is starting on the field, and off it too with the arrival of his beautiful little girl last Sunday.
“It is all moving very fast, but I am looking forward to getting stuck in. I’m in the process of moving up here closer to Castleford so it is going to be a new chapter for me in my career, and definitely a new one as a dad too.”
Everyone at Castleford Tigers would like to congratulate George and his partner Grace on welcoming Winnie Mabel Lawler to the world!
Lawler will be coached by fellow Hull native Lee Radford next campaign, with the Cas Head Coach already putting his stamp on things by bringing in a total of eight eye-catching new recruits for next season.
When asked about getting the opportunity to play under the 42-year-old, the adaptable forward explained that being under his tutelage will only be a positive for his game moving forward.
“I’ve spoken to people who have worked under Lee before and that have had nothing but positive words to say about him. I think he will elevate my game and the club as well, so it is exciting times.
“The lads that have come in are all great signings and the people who are already here are fantastic people as well. I’m looking forward to training with them and to get down to business.
“I am an honest worker who does their bit for the team and lay the platform for the backs so I can’t wait to link up with the forward pack.”
George has experienced the raucous Jungle atmosphere at Wheldon Road on a number of occasions as an opposition player, and in closing, the new recruit said that he is relishing the thought of running out at Wheldon Road with the Fords faithful behind him!
“I can’t wait to play in front of them. The passion that they bring is something what I pride on bringing myself as well so I can’t wait to get going and have them behind me.”
