Lewis Peachey extends for 2022
Castleford Tigers can announce that young forward Lewis Peachey has signed a one-year contract extension to further his stay at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle.
The 20-year-old joined Castleford’s youth system via the Tigers Talent Pathway before progressing through Scholarship and Academy levels and then onto the First Team stage.
Peachey made his Fords debut back in 2019 against the Catalans Dragons and has gone on to make a further 12 appearances in Cas colours.
On signing his new deal, the forward explained just how pleased he is to be staying at the club he has been associated with since he was a teenager.
“I am really happy to be staying! With a new coach coming in next year, I am hoping to push on and hopefully get some more game time.
“I got a few games this year, probably more than I thought and I am hoping to get the same or even more next year.
“I came through the TTP (Tigers Talent Pathway), then the Scholarship and Academy so it is all I have known really. It is good to be staying and I can continue to improve.”
Castleford are currently seeing a promising crop of youngsters coming through, especially in the forward pack, with the likes of Jacques O’Neill and Sam Hall impressing in the middle of the field. Peachey outlined that competing against his fellow youngsters helps them all raise their game and drive them forward in their quest for a first team starting spot.
“Me and some of the younger lads were able to get some good experience this year and hopefully I can take that and improve next year. I will take that knowledge into 2022 which will make me a better player.
“All the youngsters coming through are a good bunch of lads to compete with and we are all aiming for the same goal so hopefully we can all make plenty of appearances.”
There have been plenty of exciting additions to the playing squad and off-field staff at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle with the new era for 2022 under Head Coach Lee Radford in full swing.
When asked about the upcoming opportunity of working under the new coaching team, the 20-year-old stated that he is relishing the chance.
“My main goal for pre-season is to impress the new coaches and show them what I can do. In terms of games, my main aim is to improve on last year’s appearances and get more experience.
“I am really excited for it to be fair because I have only been here under one coach since I started so I think it will be interesting and I am definitely looking forward to working under Lee Radford.”
In closing, Peachey had a message for the Fords faithful, who always get right behind the club’s young guns, and put forward that he is overjoyed by the prospect of playing in front of them next term.
“I’m really looking forward to playing down at The Jungle again next year and hopefully the fans can get behind us to create that great atmosphere. I am sure we will repay them and get some great wins.”
Castleford Tigers Head Coach Lee Radford spoke positively on the youngster signing for another year, putting forward that Peachey will be given opportunities in and amongst senior members of the squad to develop his game further.
“Lewis is a good kid and the games I have watched him in this year, he has been tidy.
“The likes of him and Sam Hall have played a lot together when they have come into the First Team and to give them an opportunity, but with more senior players around them, will be great for their development.”
