2021 End of Season Awards

Oulton Hall was the place to be on Sunday night for Castleford Tigers’ 2021 End of Season Awards night.

It was an occasion enjoyed by all in attendance with players and staff being recognised for their incredible commitment to the club with a number of them saying their final goodbyes before moving onto pastures new.

ACADEMY PLAYERS’ PLAYER OF THE YEAR (SPONSORED BY BARHALE) = LOUIS COLLINSON

It has been a standout year for the club’s academy team with the Tigers’ young guns winning 11 out of their 14 matches this term.

All of our youngsters have represented the Fords with distinction once again this campaign and it was Louis Collinson who was voted as the Players’ Player of the Year by his teammates for his fearless performances.

ACADEMY PLAYER OF THE YEAR (SPONSORED BY HH CONSTRUCTION) = MACKENZIE SCURR

Winger Mackenzie Scurr was awarded the Academy Player of the Year for 2021. Scurr has shown a real eye for the try line this season, scoring on a regular basis for our Under 19’s side.

CASTLEFORD TIGERS FOUNDATION COMMUNITY AWARD (SPONSORED BY HANNAFIN) = NICK KENNEDY

This year’s Community Award was won by Castleford Tigers PDRL captain Nick Kennedy who has played a massive part in a successful season for the physical disability team. Nick also produced a mammoth effort ahead of the Challenge Cup Final, where he cycled all the way from The Mend-A-Hose Jungle to Wembley in order to raise money for all PDRL rugby league teams in the UK.

TRY OF THE YEAR (SPONSORED BY CASTLE CLEANING SERVICES) = JASON QAREQARE

The Try of the Year Award this season was a very difficult choice with four fantastic scores to pick from on the night. Attendees had the choice of Jordan Turner’s last gasp try in the Cup at Hull KR, Niall Evalds’ electric score at Wembley in the Betfred Challenge Cup Final, Jason Qareqare’s debut try against Hull FC, and Greg Eden’s full length intercept score away at St. Helens.

The votes were collected, and it was Jason Qareqare’s try with his first touch in senior rugby which saw the youngster claim the award.

PLAYERS’ PLAYER OF THE YEAR (SPONSORED BY WOW HYDRATE) = OLIVER HOLMES

Voted by his fellow players, Oliver Holmes is this year’s Players’ Player of the Year! The second rower has experienced a standout season, making 20 appearances and crossing on six occasions for the Tigers in 2021.  

DIRECTORS’ PLAYER OF THE YEAR (SPONSORED BY CBR ENGINEERING) = PAUL MCSHANE

Paul McShane won the 2021 Director’s Player of the Year which is voted by all of the directors at the Castleford Tigers. The talismanic hooker has once again proved that he is one of the best nines in the competition with his classy displays this term.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR (SPONSORED BY ANTHONY HIGGINS TRANSPORT) = OLIVER HOLMES

Oliver Holmes picked up his second award of the night by winning the Player of the Year for 2021. An emotional Holmes collected his award as he thanked the club who he has represented since he was 15 years old, as the second rower moves on to a new challenge at Warrington Wolves next season.

IMMORTAL AWARD WINNER (SPONSORED BY ERGO REAL ESTATE) = PAUL MCSHANE

The Immortals Award means so much to the players due to the vote being casted by legends of the club such as Mal Reilly. This year the honour of winning the award went to Paul McShane as the #9 picked up his second accolade of the night.
