Milner on win over Hull FC

Castleford increased their winning streak to four after turning over Hull FC at the MKM Stadium, and Tigers #13 Adam Milner put in a stand-out performance.

After Paul McShane required substituting inside ten minutes, it was Adam Milner’s opportunity to step up to the plate – and what a match he had!

“It was a massive effort from the boys. We knew it was a really important match for us and we’re in a bit of a groove at the minute winning our last three so coming into it we knew how important it was,” Milner told castlefordtigers.com.

“The boys are working hard for each other and it could have gone one of two ways after the Challenge Cup, but it’s gone the way all the boys in this camp thought it would.”

The 29-year-old started as an interchange but came off the bench around the 10-minute mark, and after making a significant impact, Milner was voted Man of the Match live on Sky Sports and received the Tigers' Fans' Man of the Match too.

“Powelly (Daryl Powell) mentioned it before the game that we had a few boys coming in fresh and I can’t say I was his best mate over the past couple of weeks because he’s left me out of the team, but he knew what he was doing!

“He got that performance out of me, and it was just a great effort from one to seventeen.

Victory against Hull meant that the Fords shifted into sixth place; a movement that has filled the team with further ambition and desire to secure one of the play-off places come the end of the campaign.

“After the Challenge Cup final, we had a meeting and Powelly showed us what we had in front of us – eight games and we knew that we’d have to win pretty much every game to get inside the six.

“We’re building momentum which is key at this time of the year and we’re halfway there. We’ve got four more games to really make a strive for these playoffs.”

Castleford face Wigan Warriors on Monday afternoon at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle, and despite a tight turnaround, the Tigers are prepared for what’s in store.

“It’s like the old Easter period. It’s all about recovery these next couple of days. We’ve got quite an experienced squad who know how to deal with these short turnarounds so hopefully, it’ll stand us in good stead, and we look forward to Wigan on Monday.”

Following Daryl Powell’s 500th Super League match as a Head Coach against Wakefield last week, Milner congratulated his gaffer and said: “Well done to Powelly with his 500 games coaching. It really shows his age!

“What he’s done to this club has just been phenomenal, and hopefully we can send him out on a high note for the end of this year."
