Castleford Tigers are saddened to learn about the passing of former player and coach David Sampson.

The father of Tigers legend Dean Sampson, David also played for Castleford making his first appearance for the club against Wigan in 1978, and he would chalk up 23 appearances - the last of which came in 1980 against Barrow.

After playing David made the switch to coaching and was Castleford’s Assistant Coach in 1986, the year in which our club won the Challenge Cup for the fourth time. In the following year, David became the First Team coach for the 1987/88 campaign, putting him in the exclusive list of men who have been Castleford’s top coach.

Playing for Wakefield Trinity and Bramley before coming to play and coach at Castleford, and then serving as a coach for both Doncaster and Nottingham City too, David was a fantastic servant to the sport of rugby league.

Everyone at Castleford Tigers would like to pass on our condolences to all of David’s family and friends at this time.
