Our Cup story so far...

Fords fans can watch the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final live on BBC Two with coverage starting at 4.30pm before the 5pm kick-off.

Castleford will be buoyed by their dramatic passage through to the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-finals, and it is hard to remember a team with a more suspenseful route to the final four.

In the third round, the Tigers visited Hull KR in what will go down as an all-time classic of this historic rugby league competition. In the 70th minute, the Robins were up 32-18, but late tries from Olpherts and McShane put the game on a knife-edge.

After the hooter, Cas threw 11 passes, the final one was a bit of magic from the McShane for Jordan Turner to take the game into golden point. Little did we know it would be FOUR periods of extra time needed for that final point which was slotted over by Gareth O’Brien.

Into the quarter-final against Salford and another climactic finish after the Red Devils leveled the game in the final minute 18-18 to take the game into extra time, again.

Hearts were in mouths when Kevin Brown shaped up for a kick but McShane heroically charged it down, chased, and leaped on the loose ball to set up the Tigers in a terrific field position. Grinding out the tackles to get closer to the posts, Gareth O’Brien then kicked another drop goal to take Castleford to the semi-final.

2021 feels like the end of an era with Daryl Powell leaving the Tigers at the end of the season after overseeing the First Team for the past eight years. In that time, he has played a pivotal role in turning the Club’s on-field fortunes around, and everyone involved at Wheldon Road would love to have him end his time as Head Coach on a high note. Challenge Cup success would certainly be a fantastic way to do it, and right now, Castleford Tigers are just 80-minutes away from Wembley which would give them an incredible opportunity to fight for that famous old trophy.
