Speaking to castlefordtigers.com about the news an overjoyed Shona Hoyle said: “I am absolutely buzzing!

“I’m just so happy I can lead the girls out with Emma [Lumley], I get on really well with her and she’s an important part of our team. With what has happened this season already, I don’t think there is anything more that can be thrown at us now.

“We are ready, and we are buzzing for this weekend. It’s going to be a passionate one in the Cup and we want to do the Castleford Tigers badge proud.”

Hoyle has been with the Tigresses since 2019 after a spell with the Bradford Bulls and was overwhelmed with the news that she will be leading the girls out from now on.

“I’m buzzing to be playing for Cas and I love the girls because they are an amazing set of women.”

This season has seen already seen a few debuts and youngsters coming through too, and co-captain Hoyle mentioned how encouraging it is to see everyone getting stuck in.

“The depth of the squad is massive. We have got a lot of depth in this team with some great players.

“All of the girls have been involved already this season and it’s fantastic to see all the girls get a chance.”

Cas Women face Warrington in the Betfred Challenge Cup quarter-final on Sunday and Hoyle is eagerly anticipating being able to lead the team out for the first time.

“It means so much to me,” she said.

“I was going to start last year as vice-captain before Covid but to be captain is amazing, to be able to lead the girls out on Sunday is exciting.

“The girls will be looking up to us now and need us to step up. We are excited and have the same expectations this season, to try and win everything. We need to believe in ourselves as we are good enough and that is what I will be continuing to echo this season."
