After over ten years of service to the club, Adam Milner was rewarded with a testimonial season in 2021 and whilst this game would have no doubt been a terrific occasion at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle under normal circumstances, these are unfortunately difficult times we are living in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It seems quite a long time, but it’s flown by has ten years, I always remember Danny Orr saying it’ll go fast my career, and it sure has done!” said Milner.

“I’m fortunate and lucky to be in the position that I am today, to get a game is a special moment for myself and I’m sure that the team and I are looking forward to games and the season starting!”

Adam is pleased to get the game on ahead of the new season and was delighted that a live stream would be available to allow Cas fans to watch it live! To purchase access to this match, click HERE.

“We have to count ourselves lucky that we have still been able to train and we have been able to get a game on, the fans are missing the rugby just as much as we are missing the fans.”

“To be able to get my testimonial game on and for fans to be able to watch it is a perfect combo for myself and my testimonial.

”It has not really been the same playing rugby without the fans, our support has still been great even though you haven’t been able to come to the games and the sooner fans can be back the better.”

Castleford fans have not been able to attend a game since March 15th last year, a memorable occasion in which the eyes of the entire sporting world were on the Tigers taking on St Helens, in what was the last rugby league match with supporters in attendance.

Usually, testimonial matches are played at the home venue of the player, but with no fans being able to attend and no ticket revenue for Adam, Hull Kingston Rovers were keen to offer their facilities at Hull College Craven Park, for free, as a test of their COVID-19 protocol perspective.

Speaking about facing the Robins at their home ground, Adam knew it was going to be a tough and ideal test ahead of the 2021 Super League season kicking off two weeks later.

“It doesn’t come tougher than Hull KR at their place, especially with the recent weather I think it’s one of the coldest places that I’ve ever played rugby at! It’s going to be tough, I’m sure conditions will be tough to play in and KR have made some great signings as well, like us they will be ready to start.”

Castleford’s new faces in 2021 could also make their first appearances for the club on Sunday, 14th March and whilst all have worked incredibly hard during the pre-season, Adam’s been particularly impressed by Suaia Matagi!

“For us we have some great new signings with Lewis, Sui, Niall and Jordan, having trained with them since the start of the year I’ve been very impressed, especially with Sui because I’ve spent a lot of time in training with him. I think he is the middle we’ve been missing over the years and I’m sure he will bolster our middle unit up.”

Another reason Adam is excited about the match is that it will be the game in which his fellow teammates will be wearing his very own testimonial kit which he admitted might be a little surreal.

“I absolutely love the kit which has been designed by hummel and is inspired by the early 90s, 1991 really from my birth year, and it will be a bit strange to see everyone wearing my jersey but it’s in Cas colours so hopefully it won’t put me too much off my game! It’s going to be such a special day seeing all my teammates wearing it!”
