Foundation launches ‘Tigers Conversion Project’

Castleford Tigers Foundation have launched a unique programme aimed at providing access to jobs and training for the unemployed across the district.

‘Tigers Conversion Project’ is available for residents who are currently unemployed and looking for work. The programme offers provides ‘in-need’ individuals direct access to training and skills opportunities, psychological support (confidence, resilience and motivation), enterprise and direct employment opportunities for the most in need people in the Airedale, Castleford and Ferrybridge Districts.

Tigers Foundation Community Director Simon Fox, said:

“This is a very welcome programme for the Castleford district at what is a hugely challenging time for many people and families. Sadly, the pandemic has led to widescale job uncertainty, redundancies and a real fear for the now and the future. We want to help people unemployed in the area the chance to get back on their feet and provide them with crucial support in finding a job. Whether they need help with simply updating a CV, applying for jobs or how to attend interview via online platforms, we will provide the right support to help them through this really tough period in history. We won’t stand idle as a club and we will be here every step of the way to help them.”

In conjunction with Wakefield PEAT this Community Led Local Development (CLLD) is funded by the European Structural Investment Fund Social Fund and The Castleford Tigers Foundation until 2022.

The Foundation has also partnered with local training and recruitment specialists, The Career Cabin in Castleford. Managing Director, Rachel McKimm, said:

“The Tigers Conversion initiative is going to enable the people of Castleford with a real opportunity to get into training and a chance to re and up skill as the employment landscape changes and evolves. We are facing unprecedented times with employers looking at new and innovative ways of working going forward.   Although some industries are facing uncertainties, other industries are booming, never before have work places offered the variety of opportunities as they do now with flexible working and working from home never before considered, which will suit people wanting to take that first step into the workplace.”

The Tigers Foundation team will be on hand to support at every step of the process and provide the expertise to guide applicants through the challenging world of work and training. Tigers Conversion Project will help applicants with:

  • Confidence building, personal development, communication skills and resilience-building workshops and 1-2-1’s to assist the employment entry process
  • IT/technology training and support
  • Job search guidance and CV writing
  • Application forms and cover letter writing workshops
  • Work placements with employers (voluntary and paid)
  • Interview techniques and feedback with ‘real employers’ and skilled volunteers
  • List of employers (and routes into) currently hiring via the Castleford Tigers large employer/sponsor network and job bank
  • Employment matching scheme
  • Work placements
  • In-work support for individuals and employers
  • Key support ie debt, housing and anxiety support
