Richardson reflects on 4 from 5

Castleford's #7 put in a Man of the Match performance on Thursday night, here's his thoughts on the KR victory.

Much like the previous round against Wakefield, Castleford performed strongly in the second half of their match against Hull Kingston Rovers after trailing at half time 8-6, going on to win 8-28. Racking up 16 of the Tigers’ points was Danny Richardson kicking six goals and getting his first Super League try for the club.

“It’s always good to score, I was getting a little worried because we’d gone four weeks and while I had a few assists I’d yet to score any tries so, I had it in the back of my mind and now I can forget about getting that first one now I’ve scored” he said.

“Going away from home and being against the wind in the first half made it tough but we knew it would be, I said to the boys if we can just get through this first half and be in the game I’m confident that we can come out and do what we did in the second half. Similar to last week and so that’s what we did and got those important two league points.”

Much has been made of the half-back partnership of Richardson and Jake Trueman as the season has begun about how well they could work together, and Fords fans have already seen the six and seven click. But Richardson is growing his combinations with the forwards too such as Grant Millington, Liam Watts and Daniel Smith who can get a late offload to him.

“All the middles can play and they’ve all got smart rugby brains, naturally it’s taken a few weeks to get used to the way they play but we feel like we’ve got it down now. The more people that we can play with and the more options we can use the better.”

Only one defeat so far in Super League 2020 for Castleford saw them go top of the league on Thursday night, whilst it’s a strong start Danny is focused on it being a strong season.

“It’s four out of five and it’s a cracking start but that’s just it – it’s only a start and we’ve just got to crack on with the rest of the season now.”

Daryl Powell’s men travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium next Friday to take on Warrington Wolves and four of Super League’s best halves should be on show with; Danny Richardson & Jake Trueman for Cas and Gareth Widdop & Blake Austin for Wire. Richardson is ready for the challenge ahead of him on Friday night

“I’m looking forward to testing myself against arguably two of the best halves in the competition, we’ll rest up this week and get ready to go.”
