Anonymous Donor Helps Tigers Recognise Key Workers

A fantastic community story as one Tigers’ fan gives back and helps the club recognise the dedication of key workers in the Five Towns Area.

It hasn’t been easy these past few months, but it’s great to know that in these unprecedented times, Tigers fans from far and wide are banding together to help support one another. Castleford Tigers and Castleford Tigers Foundation have been able to reward a variety of key workers and their families with squad signed 2020 home shirts as a result of a very generous donation from an anonymous Tigers fan.

No doubt very grateful for this show of support and gesture of kindness from a fellow fan, our key worker recipients were delighted to receive their signed shirts and wanted to pass on their thanks to whomever had made this possible:

  • Stuart and Dawn, from South Elmsall:  “I go to work to co-ordinate delivering food to supermarkets, but obviously my wife Dawn is different she works as a nurse for the NHS! So being on the frontline, it’s quite scary at the minute, it’s good to know that everyone us thinking about us. It’s lovely that people appreciate what you’re doing, and it’s really just your job at the end of the day!

  • Emileigh, Activities Co-ordiantor at Manor Park Care Home, Cutsyke “We’ve got loads of Cas Tigers fans here amongst the residents, so they really will love this and they’ll be so grateful for this! We’d just like to say a thank you to the anonymous donor for supporting and thinking of us and it will mean a lot to us and the residents here.
  • Marie Burrow, Support worker for carers in Wakefield “Throughout lockdown we’ve helped support the vital work as unpaid carers throughout the Wakefield district: That could be anything from parent carers to a husband and wife caring for one another. All in all we probably save the government thousands of pounds!

  • Jordan, Operations Manager and Owner of Children’s Homes “Thanks so much, as a keyworker you just go to work and do your job. It’s really nice to be appreciated for doing something I love which also makes a difference to children’s lives.”

In addition to donating to help the club recognise key workers, the same anonymous donor has kindly helped the Castleford Tigers Foundation support members of the local community that have been hit particularly hard by Coronavirus. After hearing of the passing of massive Tigers fan Marie Marston due to Covid-19 earlier in the year the Foundation was able to pay a socially distanced visit to husband Chris and family with some Tigers’ Merchandise provided by the donor, which was very gratefully received.

Community Director Simon Fox said: “This is a fabulous example of the community spirit and togetherness repeatedly shown by the Tigers’ fanbase. The support of this selfless donor allows us to put more smiles on more faces and make difficult times for many, just a little bit brighter. The whole community is in a tough place right now but these acts of kindness keep us strong and we will continue to be there for our community when it matters most."
