Tigers break ground on new 4G pitch

Castleford Tigers 4G Rugby Pitch

Ground was officially broken on the new training pitch on Monday, 13th October 2025.
In attendance were Barhale CEO and Castleford Board Director Martin Brown, First Team Captain Joe Westerman, Women's Team Captain Lisa Box, Reserves and Academy players Corey Sharpe & Tyler Sharpe, PDRL Captain Nick Kennedy plus Tigers wheelchair star Ash Lockwood and LDRL team member Taylor Godfrey, Scholarship player Fletcher Sheldrake.

In collaboration with our main sponsor Barhale and partner Flannery Plant, over 2,000 tonnes of spoil were removed from the existing ground, and more than 2,700 tonnes of sub-base materials (135 wagon loads) were imported over the first 48 hours.

With the environment in mind, the club opted to use a special sub-base material called ECO Type 1 IBAA, which generated a carbon reduction of 7,600kg CO2e compared with standard materials.

Additional benefits include:
• Fewer vehicle movements due to better bulk density
• Carbon sequestration during maturation
• Made from waste, conserving natural resources

The new pitch installation has been carefully coordinated to align with the Castleford Tigers Family Bonfire Night on Wednesday, 5th November.
The tarmac subsurface will be installed during the week commencing 20th October, ensuring that all attendees at our Bonfire Night will have a safe, firm, and clean hard standing from which to enjoy the fireworks and festivities.

Following the bonfire, the artificial grass, fencing, new lighting, power cables, and other ancillary works will be installed between 10th November and early January 2026. The new training pitch will be constructed in line with RFL performance and construction guidelines.

Castleford Tigers CEO Danny Wilson said:

“This latest project is a clear demonstration of how the club’s new leadership is driving change both on and off the field.”

Once completed, the new pitch and facilities will form part of a series of projects currently underway within the stadium — all aimed at significantly improving the fan experience and generating additional revenue streams outside of the domestic rugby season.
