Leopards 46 - Tigers 6

Leopards 46 - Tigers 6
The Tigers travelled to Leigh Leopards for their Super Legue Betfred Round 24 fixture at the Leigh Sports Village Thursday night fixture.
Castleford welcomed back full back Tex Hoy for the trip, and youngster Alfie Lindsey held his place in the starting lineup.
The visitors kicked-off but struggled to find any way back into the Leopards territory in the early first half exchanges. The Leopards attacked opened the scoring inside the first five minutes and the opened the back line with a converted try. The Castleford attack struggled to get any field position and kicked from deep on several occasions before finding the chance in good-ball. A penalty for a high shot gifted the Leopards yardage up-field which they looked to quickly capitalise, but the Castleford backline held firm and forced a Leigh error. Winger Elliot Wallis looked to make yardage, but the Leigh defence forced him into touch with a gang tackle.
Another converted try followed for the hosts in the right-hand corner and they took control of the game. Castleford then lost prop Tom Amone to an injury, and on their return up field another try on the twenty-minute mark for Leigh increased the score.
Managing to find their feet in the Leigh final third, the Tigers looked to cause problems and a kick in-goal from Hoy asked questions, but the Leigh backline swallowed up the pressure. Another opportunity again followed with Asi and Senior looking for opening and a similar kick from Hoy again caught the Leopards back line in-goal as the Tigers fast feet stalled the home sides go-forward. A short kick off from the drop out was regathered by the hosts and they pressed again when a successful forty-twenty gift the Leigh attack huge metres and scored again to go through the gears on the half hour and go in at the break 24-0.
Starting the second half much like the first the Leigh go-forward kept the Tigers deep in their own half for several sets of possession as they couldn’t find field position. Joe Stimson and Cain Robb looked to find their way through and build pressure with Asi causing problems and earned a penalty for an accidental offside from Leigh. Joe Westerman looked to get ovr the line but was held up by the Leopards defence. Louis Senior tried but also held short and the Leopards held firm, but the Tigers scrambling defence earned a drop out from the fast line-speed.
The Leopards attack when they did return up field broke through, but the Tigers held them up, from the following play another breach of the back line just short of the hour saw another converted try.
On the hour the Leopards pinned the Tigers back as they failed to deal with a tricky high kick on the last tackle and the ball-bounced back into the route of the Leigh attackers and a try in goal under the sticks saw another converted try posted.
An error deep in their own half saw the Tigers turn over possession and again on the hour another try followed as they crashed through next to the posts.
The Tigers continued to press and reaped the rewards of a Liam Horne break through the middle laying the foundations for Tex Hoy to break and go over after Robb worked the ball wide at the line. Chris Aktin added the conversion, but the hosts finished the game with another late try to seal a convincing 46-6 win.
