Tigers 20 - 14 Wolves

Tigers 20 - 14 Wolves
Tigers got back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon with an impressive display against visitors Warrington Wolves.
A significant win for the home side, and a turning-point for their season as they look to improve their competitive edge in the League.
Player-of-the-Match Daejarn Asi caused the Wolves problems throughout, as the visitors struggled to contain the go-forward of the hosts early on.
Warrington crossed first to open the scoring through Sam Stone, but Asi soon coupled up well with Chris Atkin and the stand-off ghosted the Wolves defence to wrestle his way over. Atkin’s conversion levelled the scores, and the home side stayed in-the-mix.
The momentum swung into the Tigers mid-way through the first half when Asi’s opportune kick into the in-goal wasn’t dealt with by the Wolves back line, and ever dangerous hooker George Lawler seized the opportunity to ground the loose ball, and score Castleford’s second try. Atkin added the conversion, and the home side began to look threatening, but as the half ran out the Wolves exposed an overlap and scored in the corner through Jake Thewlis; to go in at the break 12-10 in favour of the hosts.
A tense and close fought second half with the testing weather conditions causing problems for both sides, but the Tigers continued their promise with go forward led through Tigers Second Row Jeremiah Simbiken, and Prop Tom Amone making in-roads into the Warrington defence.
On the hour mark another kick from Asi found the Wolves back line in disarray, and the Tigers were awarded a penalty for an accidental off-side. which Atkin again successful with the boot and increased their lead.
Minutes later with the Wolves in full flight at the Tigers try line, a big hit from Simbiken led to a loose ball, which Atkin quickly gathered and raced clear, coupled up with centre Zac Cini who drew the back line and sent winger Josh Simms racing over to score. Atkin kicked the conversion again and gave them a ten-point cushion.
The Tigers were reduced to twelve men with a sin-bin for Alex Mellor for a high shot in the process of thwarting a Wolves try, but the field position deep in Tigers territory saw their push reap rewards on the last tackle, with a kick through to the corner grounded by Stefan Ratchford.
A nervous final ten minutes saw both sides have opportunities to get something out of the game, more notable a drop-goal attempt from Asi which went anxiously wide of the upright.
The Tigers defence stalled the Wolves progress as they rallied well to hold on to the lead, and forcing errors from the Warrington attack to hold out for a deserved 20-14 victory at Wheldon Road.
