Castleford Tigers Foundation and education partners SCL are launching an exciting new ‘esports’ course which gets underway this September!

The Tigers and learning providers SCL Enigmaz will provide a BTEC Level 2 Diploma and Level 3 National Diploma in esports, aimed at learners who are looking to progress to employment in the esports industry, possibly via an apprenticeship in a related industry, or whose aspirations may also be to progress to further education.

The beauty of both courses available is that all provisions are accessible online, meaning anyone across the world can sign up and become part of the ‘Tigers College’ family.

Castleford Tigers Foundation's Community Director, Simon Fox, voiced his delight at the introduction of the new course which will open a number of potential career paths for graduates.

“The world of esports is ever evolving and is a global employment industry worth billions of pounds. Where we get excited is that is creates new opportunities for students to develop skills, take the principles of esports and apply them to any career path whether that be a player, data analyst, media content producer or even an events manager. We are also looking to launch our very own professional esports team, which will be a first within rugby league. It is a really exciting move forward for the club and for young learners across the district and of course, the world!”

Learning partners SCL are experts in esports education and have created a new initiative, SCL Enigmaz, to deliver a range of officially recognised qualifications at over 70 education centres nationwide.

Both qualifications are endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for learners that want to work in the industry. This intimates that it will be recognised by employers and will support entry into the industry in a range of roles.

Lawrence Blair, Director of Partnerships at SCL, explained how pleased he and his company are to be teaming up with the Tigers.

“We’re excited to launch our new esports offering through SCL Enigmaz in September, using our 20+ year history in sport to deliver a unique experience for our learners. The esports industry is ever-growing and roles within this sector are in high demand. Our BTEC programmes are designed to be delivered online with enrichment activities at our education centres, and we are delighted to partner with Castleford Tigers to inspire the next generation of esports professionals.”
