Castleford Tigers are thrilled to confirm that young hooker Cain Robb has committed to a two-year contract extension with the Club!

The 19-year-old, who is proudly sponsored by Keltbray, rose through the ranks in the Fords’ Scholarship and Academy programmes before making his senior bow in Betfred Super League against Salford Red Devils last year.

Robb has gone on to make a further four appearances at First Team level and has impressed the Fords supporters whenever he has taken to the field, as was shown by the youngster picking up back-to-back Man of the Match awards in his first two appearances.

A hot young prospect for the Tigers, Robb isn’t the first talented youngster to commit his future to Castleford this season, Jason Qareqare also put pen to paper a new contract until the conclusion of the 2024 campaign.

Proclaiming just how overjoyed he is to have signed a new deal, Cain reflected on his journey at the Tigers so far.

“I am really happy to have signed and to be staying with the Tigers for another two years and I am really excited to keep progressing,” Robb told castlefordtigers.com.

“I joined the Club from my amateur team West Hull, and I used to play for Beverley Braves as well. I was 15 when I came to Cas at Scholarship level then I played all the way through the system to the Academy and then the First Team.

“I’ve really enjoyed coming through at this Club and I was given my opportunity last year to train with the First Team and from there it kicked on really. I got offered my first full time deal and now here we are with me signing a two-year deal.”

Club captain Paul McShane speaks highly of the youngster and has continued to take his understudy under his wing. Robb speaks highly of the 2020 Man of Steel who has been continually giving him advice to improve his game.

“Working alongside someone who has won a Man of Steel is great for me because he teaches you so many lessons on the field and off the field. Having that composure as a hooker is something he has really helped me with a lot.”

With his future confirmed for the next two years, the youngster outlined what his goals are for the immediate and long term, with his eyes firmly set on that starting hooker slot in the years to come.

“My target now is to get more regular minutes in the First Team. These next two years I want to be pushing on and pushing myself to be trying to get on that field.

“My short-term goal is my development as a player, but my long-term goal would definitely to be to get that number nine shirt here.”

Castleford Head Coach Lee Radford is now halfway through his first term at the helm and hasn’t been shy in including youngsters in his First Team squads with Jason Qareqare, Sam Hall, and Brad Martin all getting senior minutes along with Robb.

When asked about his boss’ impact so far, Cain declared that he is relishing the opportunity to be playing under Radford.

“It’s his first year here and I have really enjoyed working under Lee and he’s a really good coach. He’s brought his own ideas and the way he wants to play which I have really liked.”

Radford commented on the news that Cain Robb has extended his contract with the Fords saying: “I’m very pleased that Cain will be staying with us at Castleford for another two years. He has some real work to do physically for us to see the best out of him and hopefully we can watch him progress over the next couple of seasons in that area.

“He has good enthusiasm, plays with good energy as we have seen in the games he has played for us this year.”
