Castleford Tigers young forward Jacques O’Neill has been working diligently as he continues his journey towards returning to the field for the #NewCasEra.

The 22-year-old happily confirmed to castlefordtigers.com that he has recently stepped up his rehabilitation sessions to now include some running work as well as joining the rest of the team on occasion to help with various drills.

Jacques described just how pleasing it is to be back out there and to link up with the rest of the Fords squad in their preparations for the season ahead.

“I’ve been doing a lot recently and my rehab has stepped up and got a bit tougher. I’m back running now, and I’ve done a few running sessions over the last week and it’s been great because I was only able to do upper body stuff before.

“It is great just be back in the mix with the rest of the lads and join in a bit. It’s great to have the ball back in my hands.”

O’Neill’s recovery has come a long way since his earlier sessions, although now he is back on the grass, Jacques is eager to progress as he outlined what the next stages of his rehab will look like.

“Looking ahead, I will just be focussing on my running and cardio for now. I’ll just get used to it and be more durable with it. After that, I’ll be doing some more intense and faster running before I can go on to do more team stuff.

“I’m not sure when I’ll be able to fully get involved with team sessions just yet but I’m hoping it won’t be too far off.”

Cas’ 2022 Super League season kicks off in less than a month’s time, with the players nearing the end of their first pre-season under Head Coach Lee Radford.

In closing, the forward outlined that he is hoping to be training alongside the rest of the group in the not-too-distant future as Head Physiotherapist, Matt Crowther, has laid out the weeks ahead before he can return to full training.

“I had a chat with Matty the other day and he gave me a timeframe of the weeks I’ve got left to do and that really gave me that real last bit of motivation that I needed.

“Every week I am getting a bit closer, so I am looking forward to getting stuck in.”
