It is the first time this season that the young guns will have played at Wheldon Road and with it being the final opportunity to see some live Fords action this campaign, we are expecting a fantastic crowd to Roar the youngsters on.

This year has been a challenging one for all our youth teams and staff due to Covid disruptions, however, our academy and scholarship teams have represented the club brilliantly this term, putting in some fantastic performances.

Six of the Fords’ Under 19’s side went on to make their first team debuts this season with Jason Qareqare, Adam Rusling, Cain Robb, Jack Sadler, Nathan Magee and Caelum Jordan all making their senior bows. Furthermore, Sam Hall and Brad Graham have both continued their development in and around the senior team with Graham scoring his first Super League try against Huddersfield in August.

Our youngsters have provided some of the most memorable moments this year, as who can forget that unbelievable score from Qareqare with his first touch in Super League and the tenacious displays from Robb at hooker who earned back-to-back Man of the Matches deputising for Paul McShane.

ONES TO WATCH:

Adam Rusling: A constant creative asset in the halfs, Adam takes on the responsibility of unlocking the opposition defence. His accurate kicks in behind keep teams penned in and Adam has been rewarded for his consistent performances with his Super League debut.

Sam Hall: The prop has experienced another consistent year with the academy and has been included in the first team setup on numerous occasions this campaign. He made two league appearances this year and his strength makes him unstoppable at times.

Josh Milthorpe: The centre/wing has been outstanding this season. Playing most of his rugby at centre this year, his ability to create for his wing and offload at any point makes him a constant threat.

Cain Robb: The hooker has been one of the shining lights for the academy this year, as was shown in his first team outings this campaign. Robb’s runs from dummy half and his fearlessness to put his head where it hurts in defence shows that he’s a complete allrounder.

Will Shaw: Will has excelled in his first season in the academy team, scoring on many occasions this year. He was recently named Academy Player of the Month after touching down 4 times in August.

Louis Collinson: Known as ‘Buster’ to his teammates, playing at loose forward/second row this term, Louis is always in an amongst the action. Always prepared to take the ball into contact, Collinson is an entertaining player to watch.
