Speaking to castlefordtigers.com, Powell said: “I am 100% focused on Castleford Tigers in 2021, I wanted to get the news out there to stop the constant rumours and I want to focus on this season, doing something special with Castleford Tigers and winning something.

“I’ve been here for a long time and I absolutely love the Club and everything that it stands for, I want to go out in a special way by giving as much as I can to the Tigers.”

In March, Powell agreed to an updated contract that will end his eight-year tenure with Castleford at the end of the 2021 season, and the Tigers’ Head Coach has strong ambitions of leaving the Club on a high note.

“I’ve absolutely loved working at the Tigers, it’s been a privilege and I know there may be some conjecture about leaving, there always is when things like this happen but from my perspective that certainly won’t be happening. We have started the season great; the boys are awesome, motivated, and focused on what we want to achieve, that is the way it will stay the rest of this season.

“I have a great relationship with the players and that is the way that rugby league is, I’ve been here such a long time that it feels like I am part of the fixtures and fittings of the place. Everything changes at some point and this season I am going to work my backside off to do something special here at Castleford Tigers, and the players are fully behind me as well.”
