Shenton supports local NHS

Shenton made the commitment of support back in May when launching his testimonial summer training range, by deciding to donate 20% of sales from the range to My Hospital Charity, the official charity partner of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, who enhance patient care and experience in hospitals in Wakefield, Pontefract and Dewsbury.

Last week Michael called into the charity offices based at Pinderfields in Wakefield to meet the fundraising team and make the donation.

Michael Shenton said: “This has been such a strange year for everyone here at Castleford Tigers and across Rugby League. My testimonial year did not go to plan. We had lots of exciting events in the pipeline but that was not meant to be as Covid-19 changed the shape of 2020. When we entered the first lock-down we were already planning my summer training range, and just seeing the fabulous work our NHS do I knew I had the opportunity to help. My Hospitals Charity do a great job helping people right in the heart of our community, and it has been great to be able to help them in a small way.”

This recent donation adds to the work Michael did earlier in the year when match-worn jerseys from  Michael’s testimonial game v Toronto Wolfpack were auctioned to raise money or Castleford Tigers Supporters Club, Rob Burrow and Mose Masoe.

“It’s been great to use the platform of my testimonial to help others,” said Shenton.

“I like to say a big thank you to my testimonial sponsors especially Castle Commercial Cleaning Services and Spear Scaffolding Services and of course to the fans who supported my testimonial by buying the range and attending my match v Toronto back in January. I’m sure you all, like me, can’t wait to get into a new year and I’m looking forward to the 2021 season and getting back playing at the Mend-A-Hose jungle with a packed crowd soon!”
