Covid Test Update – 14th October
Posted: Wednesday 14th October 2020 - 5:27 PM
Castleford Tigers have conducted two further rounds of Covid-19 testing following three positive tests last week, no further positive tests have been received among our players or coaching staff.
The three players who had received a positive result are still self-isolating, as are the further six players who were asked to stand down due to track and trace protocols and one more player already self-isolating due to a family member contracting Covid-19.
The Club held their additional testing on Friday morning and were told of no further positive tests over the weekend before conducting their regular weekly round of tests on Monday which confirmed again no further cases of Covid-19 in the Tigers playing group.
Betfred Super League has issued a competition update which can be read below:
The Betfred Super League fixture between Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons which had been scheduled for Thursday October 15 has been postponed.
This is because Wigan Warriors have had a number of positive tests this week following the three confirmed last week – the club will provide further details shortly. Wednesday’s scheduled training session was cancelled, and the Warriors will have a further round of testing on Thursday.
Following those results, the RFL’s Multiple Cases Group will consider whether Wigan Warriors can return to training. Their next scheduled fixture is against Salford Red Devils next Friday (October 23).
As yet, there is no new date available in the calendar for the Warriors vs Dragons fixture – but the situation will be kept under review.
In total, from 591 tests taken across the 11 Betfred Super League clubs and other supporting staff this week, there have been 584 negative results, and seven positives – spread across four clubs.
Three clubs – Catalans Dragons, Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils – had further tests on Friday because of their fixture schedule. There was one positive from that round, a Red Devils player who then had a second positive on Monday.
(Red Devils have already confirmed that they have had two players testing positive, with two results that were initially inconclusive now confirmed as negative)
The other 131 tests were negative, producing a revised total for the week starting October 5 of 709 negatives and 12 positives from 721 tests, with the positives spread across six clubs.
Screen4 were selected as the preferred testing partner for Betfred Super League clubs. Players and officials from each club, along with match officials and other key matchday staff, will undergo weekly antigen testing.
Super League and the RFL will provide a central weekly update on COVID-19 tests carried out and the breakdown of results.
For the purpose of medical privacy, no details of specific clubs or individuals will be provided as part of this update, unless circumstances allow.
- Clubs cover the costs of their testing.
- Every player or member of staff who attends the training ground, prior to entering the site, must complete a screening protocol to detect any symptoms in a manner devised by the Club Doctor.
- Players and staff will also be required to complete a daily medical questionnaire submitted before arrival at the training ground on training days. If this is not submitted before arrival, access to the training ground will be denied.
