Tigers squad for Wigan clash

Daryl Powell has named his 21-man squad for this Saturday’s rearranged match against the Wigan Warriors at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Originally the Tigers were scheduled to face Toronto Wolfpack in this round of Betfred Super League fixtures but following their withdrawal from the competition it was classed as a ‘bye-week’ and the team was placed on stand-by. After the news of positive Covid-19 tests within the Catalans Dragons squad, Wigan’s original opponents for this week, Castleford have stepped up due to the circumstances with kick-off scheduled for 4.15pm on Saturday afternoon.

Ball handling forward Daniel Smith is named in the Tigers’ 21-man squad for the first time since the restart, Jake Trueman is also named after pulling out of the matchday squad against St Helens in the previous round.

Castleford and Wigan have faced one another already in 2020 at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle back in February and it was the boot of Danny Richardson that made the difference with two second-half penalties to secure a 16-12 victory. The Tigers will be looking for their first victory following the restart of Super League and to kick on from a tremendous effort shown against 2019’s Champions St Helens last time out. Meanwhile, Wigan have won both of their matches since the season's resumption, beating both Wakefield and Leeds.

Over on Tigers TV listen to Head Coach Daryl Powell preview the match, discuss being drafted in for the fixture on a few days’ notice and much more.
