Sanderson signs with Cas

Castleford Tigers have signed 21-year-old Jack Sanderson for the rest of the 2020 season with an option for next year too.

The utility back was with Hull FC last season and was out of contract with the club at the end of the year but despite this he was invited to be a part of the Black & Whites pre-season, meaning he joins Castleford fully fit and raring to go.

“I’m delighted to be here, I’ve come from Hull FC where things didn’t work out but I got an opportunity to come down here and I’m really excited for what the future holds. So far I’ve only been here a couple of days and it seems like such a good club to be a part of and I’m looking forward to getting started,” Jack said about joining the Fords.

“I’ve done a full pre-season with FC so I’m coming into the club in shape and ready to go straight from the off and I’m buzzing to get some games under my belt as soon as possible.”

Sanderson offers more options to the Tigers’ backline which is highly competitive in 2020 with both James Clare and Derrell Olpherts starting their seasons strongly on the scoreboards.

“I’m versatile in the backs whether it’s on the wing, at fullback or centre, I enjoy playing in all those positions really because they are all different roles within the game.

“It was the same at Hull we had a good backline there and I’ve come to compete straight into another good backline here, there’s different sorts of players with strength, speed and skill. It’ll be good to learn off the players and hopefully get an opportunity within the First Team soon as well.”

Head Coach Daryl Powell said: “I’m really pleased to add a young, exciting outside back to our squad for the remainder of the season and it gives Jack an opportunity to show us how good he can be.

“I know he’s got a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to working with him.

“Jack adds even more competition to our outside back slots and he can play wing, centre and fullback. When a player has the versatility to play three different positions it helps massively.

“He’ll start in the Reserves initially but once he gets some training under his belt with us we’ll take things from there.”

Jack will feature in his first game as a Castleford player in the Reserves away match against London Broncos and he’s already looking forward to working within the Tigers system.

“Reserves will be great for players who aren’t quite there yet within the First Team and gives opportunity to play in front of the coaches as well as keeping match fit. You’re playing for the club as well within the same system so it’s not like you’re going into a completely new environment and you’re ready to go if needed in the First Team.”
