If Lindsay Anfield’s side progress to the showpiece, it will be their second major final of the season after losing out in the Challenge Cup final last July.

Last week, the team lost out to St. Helens in their final regular league game of the season. This denied them a potentially history making unbeaten Super League campaign.

The black and amber opened the scoring through Shona Hoyle and went into the break 10-4 up as Tara Stanley also got on the scoresheet.

But shortly after the restart, the hosts found their rhythm and scored three tries within 20 minutes, leaving Castleford with too much to do. A late effort from Maisie Lumb proved too little too late as Saints clinched the 20-14 win.

Now the regular season is over, Castleford, Wigan, Leeds and Saints are the four teams left in the race to be crowned Super League champions.

While the Tigers host Wigan, the battle in the second semi-final will be between runners up St. Helens and third-placed Leeds.

The Tigresses and the Cherries have locked horns twice this season, with Cas winning on both occasions.

The first meeting between the sides was back in ‘Round Two’ where Cas earned a 36-14 win. The two teams met again later in the season with Anfield’s side running out 56-8 winners at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

After being knocked out in the Super League semi-finals last season to Leeds, Castleford will be desperate to play in the final on the 11th October at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

As well as progressing through on Sunday, Castleford are also looking to play in front of their biggest crowd this season. The current record attendance this season was set in the Challenge Cup quarter-final where 1,492 fans turned out to watch.
