Rugby League's biggest variants event ‘Grand Day Out’ is headed to Blackpool this Saturday!
The Grand Day Out showcases rugby league’s fantastic inclusivity with all the variants of the game such as: Touch, Tag, Masters, Physical Disability and Learning Disability. The event is FREE and will be taking over every inch of Stanley Park in Blackpool.
Both the Castleford Tigers PDRL & LDRL sides will be in action representing the club in the final rounds of the PDRL League and Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League.
Our Learning Disability Rugby League team will be playing in a festival against every other LDRL team in attendance from 11am-1pm. The Tigers’ Physical Disability Rugby League team face off against Wigan Warriors at 1.30pm and local rivals Leeds Rhinos from 2pm!
RFL Director of Participation & Development, Marc Lovering, said: “Rugby League is for everyone and nothing demonstrates this more than the Grand Day Out. It really does showcase all that’s best about our sport – and it does so in the fabulous setting of Blackpool’s Stanley Park. It really is a fantastic day out for all the family – and it’s completely free of charge."
Neil Barnaby, Disability Rugby League Project Manager for Castleford said:
“We’re really looking forward to the weekend with two big games for our PDRL side that will help decide who our semi-final opponents will be for the finals weekend. We’ve made great progress in recent weeks and the team continues to grow in strength and numbers, as such we’re very excited for the close of the season.”
There is more great news for the Castleford Tigers PDRL side as they have been asked to play at Old Trafford on Grand Final day! Castleford will take on local rivals Wakefield ahead of kickoff.
“The Grand Final game is a massive honor, not just for the Foundation but for the club as whole and Disability Rugby League to get such exposure on a grand occasion.”
Barnaby added: “This weekend sees the final festival of the Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League for 2019, the team has had some superb performances this year with a highlight being the win over Leeds Rhinos at Anfield during Magic Weekend. Rob Richardson has done an outstanding job as the Castleford LDRL coach in it’s first year, they have made brilliant progress and are growing into a force to be reckoned with next season!”
Community Integrated Care will be celebrating the first season of the LDRL league at Old Trafford too, with all teams attending who have participated in this inaugural season in the Manchester Suite at Old Trafford on Grand Final night.
You can get your weekend rugby league fix by heading over to Stanley Park in Blackpool this Saturday, it’s completely FREE and you can cheer on both our Tigers sides!
