Castleford Tigers can announce that Steve Armitage has been appointed as the club’s new Youth & Junior Talent Identification Officer.
The role will see Armitage work with scouts to identify the brightest young talent in rugby league.
Speaking about his new role Armitage said: “The job is about keeping in touch with scouts as we look to bring in new lads in who are under 13s and 14s with a view to sign them on in the future.
“All of us who work with the youngsters have an important job. We are looking for players who will go through the system and hopefully feed into the first team. It’s important for the club as we try to create homegrown talent.”
Armitage has previously worked with Daryl Powell at Featherstone Rovers as well as Castleford’s current under 16s head coach, Danny Evans.
Tigers Head of Youth Performance Darren Higgins added: “The appointment of Steve is a great addition to the club. Steve has extensive experience that will on add value to our talent identification system.”
