U16s ready for tough Newcastle test

Castleford Tigers U16s return to action this Wednesday night with an away clash against Newcastle Thunder.
The Tigers come into this game following a hugely impressive 100-10 victory over London Broncos two weeks ago. That result maintained Castleford’s unbeaten run at the under 16s level.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s game, head coach Danny Evans underlined the importance of preparation.
He said: “We have to make sure that we prepare well for a tough trip to Newcastle. We’ve got to make sure that all the boys are ready and prepared really well for this next challenge.
“Every time we play Newcastle at youth level they always give a good account of themselves. They’re well coached and they’ve got a good pool of kids who are playing up there at the moment. We’re looking forward to a big challenge ahead.”
Three regulars won’t be available for selection with Bailey Hodgson, Archie Fletcher and Cain Robb all selected for England Youth.
Evans is proud to see three of his players on international duty and believes that their absence is likely to give others an opportunity to step up against Newcastle.
He said: “We started picking up injuries plus we have three boys who have been selected for England Youth that won’t take part in this game. I think it’s important that they represent the country and we look after them that way.
“As a result, there’s going to be ten under 15s that will be playing against Newcastle which is really good for our programme going forward. We want to be giving opportunities to young kids here at Castleford.”
Brotherton Bulldogs star, Will Shaw, is one of those under 15s and he will captain the team on Wednesday night.
Here is the 20-man squad selected by head coach Danny Evans: Aidan Robinson, Arron Drew, Ben Wood, Caelum Jordan, Callum Hutchinson, Charlie Harris, Dan Simms, Jack Riordan, Jack Sadler, Jacob Harte, Jacub Kowalski, Jason Quareqare, Josh Milthorpe, Lewis Ransom, Mackenzie Scurr, Nathan Magee, Rio Evans, Tom Greensmith, Tom Hazelgrave and Will Shaw (c).
