Becky Grady scored on her debut as the Tigresses ran riot in the first half to claim their sixth victory in the Women’s Super League.
The visitors enjoyed a blistering start as Tamzin Renouf got on the scoresheet in the opening five minutes. Hooker Sinead Peach broke the line and released her teammate to make it 6-0.
Arguably the try of the match came just moments later. Full-back Tara Stanley gathered the ball in her own goal line area and made up over 60 meters with a sensational ride. Kelsey Gentles picked up the pieces and added a further 40 meters as she crossed the whitewash to make it 12-0.
A few minutes later, Woman of Steel Georgia Roche stamped her name onto the scoresheet. The half-back showed incredible footwork as she got the better of Featherstone’s defence and scored to make it 18-0.
With quarter of an hour gone, things got even better for the visitors as Tara Stanley added a try to her three conversions – this made it 24-0.
Rovers were hurt, battered and bruised by that opening spell for the visitors but things still got worse for Jonny Payne’s side.
Claire Garner soon got over for Castleford and was quickly joined by Sammy Watts who scored her first try of the season.
With seconds left until the interval, Featherstone finally found a breakthrough. Nat Harrowell was able to get over and end a run of six unanswered tries.
Rovers took that newly found momentum into the second half and quickly found the tryline. Former Castleford captain, Katie Hepworth, powered past her old teammates to give her side a fighting chance.
No more than five minutes later, Hepworth was at it again. The Tigers defence struggled to deal with their former player who twisted and turned her way over the whitewash to make it 36-16.
Castleford seemed taken aback by Featherstone’s start to the second half however, they were able to respond with a try from Maisie Lumb.
That proved to be one of the few highs for the visitors in the second half as Rovers went on to dominate the next 20 minutes.
Despite their dominant spell, Featherstone struggled to find a clinical edge and only scored in the 70thminute when Chelsea Senior touch down on the left edge.
Nevertheless, there was still time for one final try and it came courtesy of Castleford debutant, Becky Grady.
The youngster joined the Tigers from Cutsyke Raidettes, a club who is in a dual registration partnership with the Super League leaders. Her effort was converted by Tara Stanley who clinched the victory for the Tigresses.
Next up for Castleford is a much anticipated Challenge Cup semi-final clash with Wakefield Trinity.
