Castleford sit at the top of the Betfred Super League table after four wins from the opening four games and head to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to take on Warrington Wolves on Thursday night.

However, being in the top spot isn’t something Nathan Massey is focusing on so early in the season.

“Obviously it’s nice to be there but we’re not taking anything for granted, we’re taking it a game at a time. We’ve got a really big game on Thursday against Warrington, they’re a top team in Super League so it will be interesting.”

The Tigers latest victory over Hull Kingston Rovers last Friday was described as “scratchy” by the 29-year-old forward: “I’d say it was a scrappy win over KR but we’re four from four and that’s what the aim was at the start of the season, we take our games in blocks of four and chalk the first four off so we’re in a good position.”

The Wolves have also started the 2019 season well with three wins from four, their first loss coming at the hands of Catalans Dragons last Saturday evening, and Massey knows how tough a challenge Warrington will pose.

“They were a top team last year making both major finals, I’m sure they’ll be looking to go one better this year and they have brought in some high-profile players to add to the roster of high-profile players that they’ve already got. We’re just concerned about ourselves and knowing what we can do in this group and I think it’ll be a really good game.”

Massey is benefiting from a full pre-season and has been in the starting squad of all four matches, gaining a lot of minutes on field especially given the changes brought in for the 2019 season.

“It’s the first time in a while that I’ve had a full pre-season under my belt so that’s obviously been very beneficial to me and I’m playing bigger minutes because of the rules changes but I’m enjoying it and just enjoying getting stuck in.”

Tickets are available for the game at the Halliwell Jones Stadium at Tigers Den in Carlton Lanes and the Castleford Tigers Sports Super Store in Xscape Yorkshire right up until 12 noon on Thursday 7th March.
