Garner left Bradford following the 2018 season and initially joined Keighley Cougars. However, due to the uncertainty over Keighley’s future, Garner opted to join the Tigresses.

Speaking on the first day of pre-season Garner said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s a new set of girls and a new season so I’m looking forward to it. I hope to contribute. I’ve got some experience of rugby league and rugby union so hopefully I can bring something different to the game and something different to the girls.”

During her time at Bradford, Garner won a host of titles including the first ever Women’s Super League and the Challenge Cup. The player was also part of the Bulls side which in 2017 went the full calendar year unbeaten.

That was also the year in which Garner represented England in the World Cup. The Lionesses reached the semi-finals where they lost 52-4 to New Zealand - the one try for England was scored by Castleford’s Tara Stanley.

Head coach Lindsay Anfield is pleased with the signing saying: “It’s great to have Claire on board. She is a talented player and will no doubt be a great addition to the Tigers. She is very intelligent and has a lot of experience. I think she can bring a lot of maturity to the team.”

Garner’s first test could come in Castleford’s first pre-season friendly which takes place on Sunday the 3rdof February away at York.
