Castleford Tigers Women have made their first big signing ahead of the 2019 campaign with the capture of Leeds Rhinos star, Rhiannion Marshall.
The 25-year-old left the Rhinos after the 2018 season and approached Castleford following the international game between England Women and France.
Marshall said: “I wanted to progress and get a little bit more experience playing with a new coach and playing alongside new people. I went to play for England and got on very well with the five girls from Castleford. I think that was the edge of joining Castleford and asking Lindsay if I was welcome.”
The England international has a wealth of experience having already competed in five grand finals and winning two Challenge Cups.
Marshall hopes that her experience will help to take Castleford to the next level. She said: “I think the future is very bright for Cas. There’s a lot of young players here, very talented players as well. I think having a bit of experience playing in the middle will lead to a successful 2019 season.”
The forward has previously played for Bradford Bulls and was part of the 2017 squad which remained unbeaten for the full calendar year. Marshall will now set about writing the next chapter of her rugby league career as part of the Tigresses.
Head coach Lindsay Anfield is thrilled to have the player on board saying: “Rhiannion is a top-class player and will no doubt be a great addition to the team.”
Preparation ahead of the 2019 campaign has already began with pre-season starting as we speak. There will be more information with regards to pre-season friendlies in the near future.
