Five Tigresses on international duty

Kelsey Gentles, Georgia Roche, Sinead Peach, Tara Stanley and Tamzin Renouf were all called up for international duty as new head coach Craig Richards sets about building his side for the 2021 World Cup.

For Gentles, Roche and Renouf, this will be an opportunity to make their England debuts. For the likes of Peach on the other hand, this is familiar territory after featuring for the international side on two previous occasions.

However, the most experienced of the five is Tara Stanley. The full back has made eight appearances for England and has represented her country in two consecutive World Cups. In the 2017 tournament, Stanley scored two tries as England reached the semi-final.

Stanley scored 16 tries for Castleford in a season which saw the Tigresses reach the Challenge Cup final and a Super League semi-final.

Not far behind on the try scoring charts was first ever Woman of Steel, Georgia Roche, whose 11 tries earned her a nomination for BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

Despite being 18, Roche isn’t the youngest of the five. That accolade goes to Tamzin Renouf who at the age of 17 has become an important part of the Tigers side. With a rugby union background, Renouf is a very intelligent and skillful player making her a danger to all.

Another player who has become an integral part of the squad is Sinead Peach. The hooker joined the Tigers at the start of 2018 from Featherstone Rovers and quickly made a positive impression. Peach missed out on the World Cup squad in 2017 and she is fully determined not to let that happen again in 2021.

Lastly, we have Kelsey Gentles. Fast, fearless and ferocious, Gentles is finally reaping rewards following a torrid time with injuries. The winger notched up four tries in 2018 and impressed in the Origin game. Just like for Roche and Renouf, this could be her first England appearance.

You can catch the game against France on the OurLeague app from 2pm (UK time) this Saturday. The game is a curtain raiser ahead of the men’s European Championship clash between France and Wales.
