Tigers Squad Announced

The Tigers go into Friday’s clash on September 7th (KO: 7:45pm) sat in third in the Super League Super 8s ladder, with Hull FC sat in seventh after a torrid season by their own admission.

Powell has resisted making any changes to the side that defeated Catalans Dragons last Saturday as he keeps the exact same 19-man squad.

After Hull’s disappointed performance last week against Warrington, Powell is expecting a fight back from the Black And White’s players: “They will respond this week, I don’t think there is any way that they won’t. They are at home and they’ve had the owner and the coach giving them a hard time this week so you’d expect them to come out and have a real go at us. For us, we’ve got to focus on our game, we’ve got to play well and put them under pressure, make it difficult for them and play our game. If we defend like we did last week I think we’ll be difficult to break down. For us, the challenge is to back up last week and be consistent going forward into these games.”

Castleford welcomed back Ben Roberts and Luke Gale last week and they both retain their places in the Tigers squad after coming through problem free: “They both came through okay, a little sore, especially Galey, he played 80 minutes which is a big effort after being out for so long,” Powell said. “I don’t envisage making many changes if any. The boys were very good, I thought defensively we were very good. There are a few areas to tidy up, in particular our good ball attack, when were in good field position we’d like to be a bit better but overall I’m delighted with the effort.”

With a win on Friday, the Tigers clinch a Semi-Final spot and Powell had only praise for the whole club for reaching this point: “I think it is a pretty big achievement. I look through the season at the difficulties that we’ve had. We’ve been missing two international half backs for a large chunk of the season. Hull have had their own injury problems but we’ve dealt with our problems pretty well. To be where we are at now is testament to a lot of hard work from everyone at the club. Players and the coaching staff have been great and the support that I get from the guys at the top in terms of being able to have a squad that’s got some ability and depth about it really speaks a lot for the club.”
