Message From Jon - A Fantastic Opportunity

Posted: Monday 16th July 2018 - 6:00 PM

Good afternoon all,

Well, what a journey 2018 has been so far! Our 14 wins and the draw that sit us in 3rd position in the SL table have been delivered in what has been a rollercoaster of a year; a year that has seen us both hammered by injuries and sprinkled with glimpses of emerging new talent that will form the nucleus of our squad for years to come. There have been some real highs and some frustrating lows during the ebb and flow of the regular season, but today’s message is one of genuine excitement at the opportunity that we have put ourselves in as a club. We have a win ratio of 66% in 2018, Daryl has just achieved his 100th win in charge of the Tigers following our victory at Salford this past Friday night, and we have many of our senior players returning in the coming days and weeks.

Our stated aim is a top 2 finish at the culmination of the Super 8 phase of the league competition and we are on track to achieve this goal – which gives us a home semi-final and a shot for the second time in successive seasons at a Grand Final appearance. There is, of course, plenty of work to do to put us in that position – we currently have the 4th best attack and the 4th best defence statistics (in terms of points scored and conceded) in Super League and we know that that will have to improve slightly to see us achieve that top 2 goal.

I wholeheartedly believe that we have that capability with the squad we have, with a touch more consistency within games and a touch more ruthlessness when it is required. Daryl, Ryan, Danny, Ben, Matty and the rest of the coaching staff are working incredibly hard to ensure the pieces are in place to take that next step, whilst Mark, Richard and Ian are providing the infrastructure we need to do just that.

That all starts on Friday night against a resurgent Huddersfield Giants who will come to the Jungle desperate to preserve their Super League status. I know you will once again turn up in numbers and in good voice and get behind your club and your team to ensure that it is the Tigers who get the points and take another meaningful step towards those top 2 positions in the table.

So, see you all on Friday night!

Jon
